The Commonwealth Games 2010-The Mega Event in Delhi

The Commonwealth Games is a multinational, multi-sport event which features competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations. Organized every four years, they are the third-largest multi-sport event in the world, after the Summer Olympic Games and the Asian Games.

The nineteenth Commonwealth Games are to be held at Delhi,India between 3 October and 14 October 2010.The games will be the largest sporting event hosted by India after the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games will be held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia.



Stadiums for the Commonwealth Games

Existing and new stadiums in Delhi will be used during these games. There are 26 new stadiums which will be utilised for the Commonwealth Games. Some older ones will be upgraded and some new will be constructed.

The opening and closing ceremonies will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.

1. JawaharlalNehru Stadium, Delhi(Athletics, lawn bowls,weightlifting)
2. Dhyan Chand National Stadium(Hockey )
3. Indira Gandhi Arena(Archery, cycling, gymnastics, wrestling)
4. Delhi University sports complex(Rugby sevens)
5. Thyagaraj Stadium(Netball)
6. Siri Fort Sports Complex(Badminton, Squash)
7. Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range(Shooting)
8. Talkatora Stadium(Boxing)
9. SPM Swimming Pool Complex(Aquatics)
10. RK Khanna Tennis Complex(Tennis)
11. Yamuna Sports Complex(Table tennis)
